This the 'vapour dispersal' that the Fire Station have and are letting me use to get my effect of rain.

Success!

I got an e-mail back from Jersey Fire Station today saying that it would be fine for me film at the fire station. They told me they have a piece of equipment  called a 'vapour dispersal' which would be perfect for what I have asked for. They have asked, in return, for me to help contribute to community safety and help provoke the use of fire alarms.
This is perfect as now I have a place to film and 'rain' I can now begin choreographing the dance.

Here is a copy of my e-mail that I sent the fire station and the e-mail I got back from them:

Hi, my name is Amy O'Brien, and I am a A-level student at JCG.
For part of my media project I need to produce the introduction to a
film I have made up.
I am a dancer and therefore thought about doing a dancing film. I liked
the idea of having my dancers dancing in water and thought about the La
Frigate fountains. However, the water board tell me they are waiting for
a part to arrive to enable them to turn the fountains back on.
This forced me to re-think where I will film the 4-5 minute intro to my
AS film.
I wondered if there was any chance I, plus my dancers, would be able to,
in any way, use part of the fire station to film the introduction. I
have the idea of my dancers dancing in rain, but would have to wait for
a big down pour to happen before I could do this, so, i was thinking a
hose? and point it upwards so the water would fall down onto the
dancers, giving the effect of rain, with a fire truck in the background
or part of the fire station to give bonus effect.
We would not be there for long as we would just need to shoot the dance
a few times from different angles. I understand I am asking a lot! But I
thought I would ask just in case. If this is in any way possible it
would be perfect!
Amy.

Hi Amy,

We would love to help out with your project.

We have an item of equipment called a 'vapour dispersal' monitor which
puts up a rather impressive vertical and horizontal 'fan' of water which
would seem to fit your needs.

However if we were to do this I'd expect a favour in return :-)
something that would contribute to community safety, in particular
encouraging people to fit smoke alarms.

If you come back to me with some preferred dates (at least 30 days in
advance if possible) and ideas of how many dancers, how long and amount
of space required, we will organise something.

Todorov’s Theory

Tzvetan Todorov simplified the idea of narrative theory while also allowing a more complex interpretation of film texts with his theory of Equilibrium and Disequilibrium.
The theory is simply this:
The fictional enviroment begins with a state of equilibrium (everything it as it should be in a state of equal balance between powers of any kind, where equality of importance or effect exists among the various parts of any complex unity).
It then suffers some disruption (disequilibrium).
New equilibrium is produced at the end of the narrative.
There are five stages the narrative can progress through:
1) A state of equilibrium (All as it should be)
2) A disruption of that order by an event.
3) A recognition that the disorder has occurred.
4) An attempt to repair the damage of the disruption.
5) A return or restoration of a NEW equilibrium.

I these stages, narrative is not seen as a linear structure but a circular one. The narrative is driven by attempts to restore the equilibrium. However, the equilibrium attained at the end of the story is not identical to the initial equilibrium.

Today I got an e-mail back from Jersey Water Board, They told me they do not know when the part they are waiting for will come down, therefore I need to start thinking of other destinations where I could film.
I thought about the fire station, using a hose, pointing upwards with the water coming down onto my dancers giving the effect of rain. I liked the idea of shooting my film at the fire station as I could make it look really effective with a fire truck in the background and the water coming down onto my dancers.
So, I e-mailed the Jersey fire station to ask them if this would be in any way possible. Knowing that this is a long-shot, I am expecting the answer to come back as a 'no' but it's worth a try and if the answer is 'yes' this would be perfect.

This is my first attempt at filming a conversation between two people. I had to bear in mind the 180ยบ rule and also I had to think about including all the important camera angles such as; over the shoulder shot, shot reverse shot, close ups, and a shot which shows the both of my characters. I filmed this conversation many times from all different angles to make sure i had a good range of camera shots to include in my film when i come to edit it.
Once i had filmed my short film i downloaded it onto the eMac and edited it on iMovie. This is to get some more practice on using iMovie and become familiar with it. My film is a bit shaky, this is because i did not have a tripod to use so i just placed the camera on my shoulder which obviously was not as steady as a tripod. If i was to do this again or when i come to shoot my actual film i will definitely be using a tripod.
